Our comprehensive two-day (16 hour) outdoor first aid qualification will provide you with the knowledge and skills to respond to a range of emergency situations. Essential for those riding out, hill walking, cycling or other outdoor activities where emergency medical assistance will take some time to reach you.
Are you a British Horse Society (BHS) Coach? This qualification is recognised by the BHS .

You will learn about when and how to move a casualty, how to deal with major illnesses and injuries, administering CPR and managing someone who is unresponsive.
Over the two days, we’ll cover a range of outdoor first aid topics including:
Introduction
Vital signs
Accident procedure
Recognition and treatment of an unconscious casualty
Recognition and treatment of seizures
Recognition and treatment of Cardiac Arrest (Adult CPR)
Recognition and treatment of Drowning / Child CPR / Infant CPR
Recognition and treatment of choking casualties
Recognition and treatment of bleeding injuries
Recognition and treatment of burns and scalds
Recognition and treatment of potential fractures to arms and lower legs
Recognition and treatment of soft tissue injuries
Recognition and treatment of head injuries (brain injuries – concussion, compression)
Recognition and treatment of neck injuries
Recognition and treatment of injuries to the torso (chest, stomach, pelvis and thigh)
Practical incidents to reinforce learning
Recognition and treatment of common medical emergencies (Asthma, diabetes, anaphylaxis, bites, stings)
Recognition and treatment of core heating and cooling (hyper and hypothermia)
In the unlikely event of a course being cancelled by us, we will look into transferring you to an alternative course being held with ourselves. If there is no suitable alternative available we will issue you with a full refund of any monies paid to us directly. We are not liable for any other losses or expenses incurred.
If the course has to be cancelled at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances, we will make contact with you by email or telephone using the contact details provided at the time of your booking.
Certificates will not be issued until full payment is received and cleared and only to those candidates who have completed and passed the course.
For group bookings please contact info@mhrc.co.uk as course fees can be invoiced and payment in full 30 days from invoice date or before the course starts, whichever is sooner.
Should you need to cancel we will look into transferring you to an alternative course being held with ourselves or partner organisations. If there is no suitable alternative available we will issue you with a full refund of any monies paid to us directly if cancelled before 2nd February 2026 otherwise the course fee is non refundable. We are not liable for any other losses or expenses incurred.
Course start time is 9am until roughly 5pm each day with a short lunch break. Tea & coffee facilities are available on site along with a microwave and soft drinks.
Parking for the event is availble on site but there is a limited amount available. There is road side parking at the bottom of the lane available (Helmshore road) just opposite the primary school (Holcombe Emmaunal Primary) and the classroom is just a short walk up either the side of the school or can be accessed via Moor Road directly.
At the time of booking when prompted for rider name please enter the participants name and leave the rest blank and it is not required.
